...and thanks for visiting my website. Chances are you're a movie buff of sorts whose love of movies inspires you to want to know as much behind-the-scenes details as you can. My specific area of interest is on-location sites. Moviesites.org explores the many places that have appeared hundreds of times in hundreds of movies, sometimes as the film's primary location, sometimes for just a quick transition scene.
My family often selects our travel destinations so that we may stand in the footprints where history was made. At Monticello, we see the lanky figure of Thomas Jefferson entering the foyer where we stand; the Sistine Chapel evokes the image of Michelangelo lying just beneath the ceiling as he creates an artistic miracle.
For me, there is a similar sensation standing in front of the main cave at Bronson Canyon in Los Angeles. At the entrance I see the cinema ghosts of John Wayne rescuing Natalie Wood in The Searchers (1956); I peer into the mists of the cave at the lost civilization of Murania where Gene Autry battled in The Phantom Empire (1935); or gaze at the cave's floor where Kevin McCarthy and Dana Wynter hid from the pods underneath wooden beams in the cult Sci-Fi classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956). Who would have imagined this all occurred just minutes from Hollywood and Vine?
This website offers a look at selected movie locations that I've had the pleasure to visit. At each location featured, you'll find its historical background, photographs from when I visited, and directions on how to get there. Additionally, each location has its own filmography that includes many scenes from the movies shot at that particular site. I hope that you'll have fun perusing moviesites.org, and that it will enhance your appreciation and love for the movies. This website is an ongoing project for me, and as my travels continue, more location sites will be added. Enjoy!
